Clive Hughes
2nd Dan (Black)

I first took up Karate at the age of 12 with Sensei Malcolm Dorfman (8th Dan), JKA Dojo in South Africa and reached the level of 1st Kyu by 1987. Regrettably due to the social distractions that came with school leaving - I took a long break from Karate and having returned back home to England in 1991 it took many years before I found a JKA affiliated Dojo and resumed formal Karate training early in 2003, by October that same year I re-graded my 1st Kyu and by May 2004 was very proud to pass my JKA Black Belt, 1st Dan with M Tanaka Sensei.

Since then I have been training under Sensei John De Bono. The learning curve is steep and with John's great experience in Competition Karate has given me numerous successes. Since 2005 I have competed in seven competitions and took 5 bronze places and 4 silver in both Kata and Kumite categories. Currently I am BKF veterans kata bronze medallist for 2008 - I hope to take gold next year!
