The BKF National SNR & JNR Karate Championships 2008

North London Shotokan Karate (NLSK) took part in the British Karate Federation (BKF) Championships 2008, last weekend at Sheffield, where teams from England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland all competed. There were many senior champions taking part, using this as a dress rehearsal for the World Championships in Japan in November and a number of Junior and Cadets aiming for places in Paris

It was going to be very difficult to achieve any medals. There were a total of 834 competitors taking part, over two days. Each day started at 10.00 and finished at 8.00 pm. But credit to the squad members, they achieved 2 bronze medals. Lydie Luis took bronze in the Ladies Senior Veterans Kata division; this was followed by Clive Hughes, who achieved bronze in the Men's Senior Veterans Kata division.

They both lost out on a place in the final and then had to win all their rounds in the repercharge for their medals.

The other members of the squad who travelled to Sheffield were Sam Redfearn and Jack and Ellen Welsh. Well done to all who took part in the competition.
