North London Shotokan Karate Club (NLSK) was founded in 1983, NLSK's first London karate club was in North London Crouch End.

North London Shotokan Karate soon expanded to other london karate clubs in the surrounding area.

NLSK Chief Instructor Sensei John De Bono (JDB) is a 5th Dan in Shotokan Karate. He has been involved in martial arts and karate for 36 years

Sensei John has also competed at the highest level and is a qualified England Referee.

The 21st World Senior Karate Championships, Paris 2012

The WKF World Championships are held every two years. In November 2012, Paris hosted the Championships for the second time in its history, the first was way back in 1972. The first edition was organized in Tokyo in 1970. Since their creation the World Championships have gathered an increasing number of participants, in Paris, more than 100 countries and 1000 athletes took part.

"Let the World Discover Karate"

The WKF President, Mr Antonio Espinos recently announced the launch of the first World Karate Day, to be known as the "K Day."

The K Day will be launched world-wide with the focus being on the BKF International Open Competition to be held at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, on the 7th October.

This date was picked as a gesture to the BKF for all the work they are currently doing to promote THE K IS ON THE WAY.

 

Jon Mottram Kata Course 2012

Jonathan Mottram, Commonwealth, European and 15 times English Kata Champion, paid a return visit to NLSK from his hectic schedule of tournaments, preparation and coaching the National Kata squad, for the World Championships in Paris in November 2012. He conducted two classes, where lower grades worked on Heian Nidan, then followed by the higher grades who worked on Gojushiho Sho.

2012 First Dan Grading

What a start to 2012, the first Dan grading of the year. After months of preparation and hard training, the candidates passed their Dan Grades.
Sensei John commented “That he was very proud of all of them showing what hard work and dedication can achieve”.

7th World Junior-Cadet Championships 2011 in Melaka, Malaysia

A squad of 29 young athletes travelled to the tropical island of Malaysia.
It was a thirteen hour flight and a two hour coach ride to get to hotel.
The Head of Delegation was John De Bono, the staff consisted of 3 coaches, 3 chaperones and one doctor.
The competition took place over four days, but the whole team where out there for a duration of 10,
to acclimatise to the humid conditions and 8 hour time difference.
The England team made history by achieving two gold medals and one bronze.
England finished 6th out of 81 participating countries with a 1215 total entries.
